Electro-Metrics EDS-250/300 Electrostatic Discharge Simulators
Electro-Metric's Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Simulation products simulate in a known and repeatable way the "static electricity" effects that we have all experienced by walking across a woolen or nylon carpet in the winter time and then touching an object such as a metal door knob or our office word processor table.
The EDS-250 Electrostatic Discharge Simulator consists of the following:
1. Model EDS-250/300 control unit
2. Either/both DC/PD probe
EDS-300
The EDS-300 is designed to simulate furniture and personnel discharge and is capable of direct and indirect voltage discharge ESD testing.Voltage is stored in the EDS-300 vanes, acting as a 150 pF distributed capacitance, and released into an object through the use of probes. The vane geometry was selected for several reasons:
- It is less sensitive to the presence of nearby capacitive bodies
- The charge is spread over a larger surface area
- The vertical edges to which the discharge probe is clamped allow adjustment to different heights without altering the discharge circuit
- Electro-Metrics® Electrostatic Discharge Simulators are designed to meet existing and proposed standards
- Common control unit (250/300)
- Generates repeatable, fast risetime, high voltage waveforms
- Continuously variable output to 25 kV
- Simulates human and inanimate object waveforms
- Simulates the four types of failure-related discharges
- Pulse probe current injection - no air discharge, therefore, repeatable, consistent results may be anticipated
- DC probe to meet IEC 801-2 and other air discharge needs when required
- The pulse counter selector permits automatic test termination by means of settings made prior to test mode
- Each probe can be used in both positive and negative polarity conditions
- Pulse unit trigger control provides quicker and more manageable operation
- Voltage cut-off switch for safety
- Interchangeable tips (R&C&C for DD series, R only for PD series
- Direct ESD testing, personnel (1800W 150 pF)
- Direct ESD testing, furniture (15W, 150 pF)
- Indirect ESD testing (I-ESD)
- ESD damage testing, furniture
- Product ESD characterization
- Field ESD testing
