Elcometer 266 DC Holiday Detector
The Elcometer 266 DC Holiday Detector can be used to test porosity on coatings up to 7.5mm (300 mils) thick and is ideal for inspecting coatings on pipelines and other protective coatings. This holiday tester features a built-in voltage calculator which will determine and set the correct test voltage based upon the test standard and the thickness of coating being tested. With its voltage calculator, adjustable voltage, internal voltmeter, and other useful features, this holiday detector is user-friendly and efficient. The Elcometer 266 revolutionizes high voltage DC testing of coatings porosity detection making it safer, easier, and more reliable than ever before.
The Elcometer 266 test pinholes caused by air entrapment which is then released from the surface, or by the entrapment of particulates (dust, sand, etc.) which do not stay in place. This device can perform three flaw detection methods: the wet sponge technique, high voltage technique, and UV pinhole detection. The wet sponge technique is suitable for measuring insulating coatings less than 500μm (20mils) on conductive substrates and is ideal for powder coatings and other coatings where the user does not wish to damage the coating. The high voltage, or porosity technique, can be used to test coatings up to 25mm (1”) thick and is ideal for inspecting pipelines and other protective coatings. The UV light can be used as a low cost, quick method of detecting pinholes in coatings through the use of fluorescent additives and a flashlight.
The Elcometer 266 DC Holiday Detector is part of the Elcometer Pinhole & Porosity Detection Series.

- Voltage calculator automatically sets the correct voltage from your coating thickness value
- Adjustable Voltage:
- 0.5 kV - 1 kV in 50 V steps
- 1 kV to 30 kV in 100 V steps
- Dual safety switch on the handle to avoid accidental switch on (Grey/orange probe handles only)
- Internal Voltmeter/ Jeep tester ensures that the test voltage equals the selected voltage
- Visual and audible alarms, Bright LEDs on the handle, as well as a loud buzzer, clearly indicate when a holiday is detected
- To change maximum voltage range, select a different handle; 5 kV, 15 kV or 30 kV DC or 30 kV DC continuous
- A wide range of probe brushes and rolling springs available
Safety Features
- Dual safety switch on the handle to avoid accidental switch on. 2-stage safety switch ensures that if the Elcometer 266 handle is not gripped, the handle will switch off.
- Specialized ribbing provides superior protection while an optional second-hand grip is ideal for two-handed use. This holiday detector has been specifically designed to meet standard EN61010.
- The speaker on the gauge clearly emits a ticking noise to indicate that there is voltage at the handle.
- A loud audible alarm is activated when a spark is detected. The beep volume can also be adjusted to ensure it can be heard - even in noisy environments.
